Reacting to the blockbuster sale of a 1952 Mickey Mantle baseball card for the eye-popping sum of $12.6 million, the Society for Commercial Advertising & Marketing (SCAM) announced this week that it would unveil a new line of trading cards featuring major-league drivers.
“We definitely believe there’s an unmet need, even a hunger, for mementos of America’s unsung heroes,” said SCAM president Lowell de Cheete. “From No-Eyed Willie Henderson to Leadfoot Gene Skwert, collectors will go mad for our offerings.”
As with baseball cards, the new line will feature the driver’s image on the front, wearing his favorite truck stop hat. On the back will be his career statistics, such as the fastest coast-to-coast run, on-time percentage, and DUI reports.
