Claiming that they have the fastest and most efficient transport offering in the nation, Speedy Gonzales Trucking (SGT) has announced that they will be offering their employees compensation for up to 1 speeding ticket per trip of at least 500 miles. Per an SGT representative, the benefit of a 10-20% faster trip far outweighs the drawbacks of a $300 ticket. “The safety of our drivers is always a priority, though we are committed to first prioritizing the speed and value of our deliveries.”
Law enforcement agencies across the nation have largely supported the effort, as an increase in speeding truckers gives an opportunity for the additional city and state funding through ticketing. Randy Dishman, Police Chief of Opelika, weighed in: “Even if we see one or two SGT truckers speed through Alabama per month, we’ve got enough funding for years.”
Speedy Gonzales Trucking continues to implement practices that will increase the speed at which they’re able to deliver goods. According to a recent attendee of the Indy500, multiple SGT representatives were scouting Nascar drivers that could be hired as truck drivers. “It’s not just about speed,” an SGT representative said. “We need tactical, strategic drivers. Someone who can we’ve in and out of traffic, evade spike strips, and run from the law.”
