Teamsters Union President Sean O’Brien said hitchhikers will have to give proof of vaccination to truckers before they are allowed to hitch a ride.
O’Brien, who was well into his twelfth Guinness beer at McCarthy’s Irish Pub, declared that although picking up hitchhikers has been frowned upon since the days of horse-drawn caravans, he understands that the long road can be a lonely place, so he would never expect his truckers not to pick up hitchhikers. However, due to the Covid 19 pandemic, he wants to protect his people from infection. He is making a new rule that expects truckers to ask for proof of Covid 19 vaccination from anyone invited aboard their trucks.
Response to the declaration was mixed among the teamsters. About two-thirds of the truckers thought the new rule was unfair. Ruffus D. Chad, a trucker from Texarcana, AK, said: “That bird-brained Mick don’t know diddle squat about hitchhikers. Most of them are Truck Stop Lizards, and you can’t be expecting a reptile to cough up a normal ID, much less other kinds of documents.”
Maria Mole de Olla, who has a route delivering taco shells for Taco Bell from Arizona to California, explained that no matter how much she would like to ask for vaccination confirmation from her hitchhikers, most of them are illegal immigrants anyhow. Hence, she doubts if they will be willing to comply.
