This week the Amish trucking tycoon Alvin Yoder of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, announced that his company had freed itself from the tyranny of the gas pump by converting all of its vehicles over to burn oats and hay instead of diesel fuel.
‘It’s a natural evolution,’ said Yoder from his dairy barn. ‘We Amish have been using this fuel for 500 years in our first generation of 4 mph supply vehicles and see no reason why modern equipment can’t do the same.’
He admitted that he might run into regulatory hurdles, as the new truck exhaust will be the same as the old exhaust.
