The trucking industry was shocked as reports surfaced that drivers demanded “me time” while on the road. Drivers who are used to spending long stretches of time alone now insist on taking regular breaks to relax and unwind.
“We had no idea this was going to happen,” said a spokesperson for one of the major trucking companies. “We’re trying to figure out how to deal with this, but in the meantime, we’re just telling drivers to tough it out.”
However, many drivers refuse to listen. They’re taking their breaks when they want to and refusing to drive any further until they’ve had a chance to relax. This has resulted in massive delays for the industry and is causing productivity levels to drop drastically.
It’s clear that truckers are no longer willing to sacrifice their mental health, even during a recession.
Many drivers are amused by the development, with one driver stating, “I don’t mind taking ‘me time,’ but it’s hard to find a good book to read when you’re on the road for days.”
Though the industry is undoubtedly dealing with a challenge, it’s important to remember that truckers are humans too. We can’t expect them to keep driving on empty and hope for the best. It’s time we provide our drivers with more breaks and give them some much-deserved ‘me time.’
