Elon Musk Says He Will Back Out of Twitter Deal if Truckers Don’t Stop Tweeting While Driving

It appears billionaire tech scion Elon Musk has a steep list of demands if he is going to go through his proposed purchase of Twitter. While he initially seemed enthusiastic about the takeover, he now demands that long-haul truckers cease using the service while they work.

What does this mean? Well, it turns out long-haul truckers are one of Twitter’s most significant users, coming up with witty observations and corresponding with their favorite celebrities while on the job for long hours at a time. Most truckers are torn about Musk’s position.

“I love Tesla, they got great batteries and stuff, but man, I can’t stop Tweeting,” driver George Low told reporters. “I’ve got a lot of friends on there and followers, and the only time I have to keep in touch with everybody and make jokes about Keanu Reeves is in traffic. Like, 5 mph stop and go? What else am I going to do?”

Experts are also torn. “You should not be using your phone while you drive, obviously,” one anonymous government source told us. “But you know, it’s only 140 characters, and when traffic’s bad- these drivers are on the road a lot, and they have some really clever jokes to share. A lot of quality Keanu Reeves jokes. That’s all I’m saying.”

Musk has taken the stance that distracted truckers are a serious threat with so many trucks on the road. While data is not in on the impact of Twitter specifically, some truckers say they don’t care what pressure Musk, Twitter, or public safety put on them.

“I don’t text, and I don’t Google, I just Tweet,” driver Marcy Thorpe says. “It doesn’t take long, but I get so much out of it. The deal can fall through. I don’t care, I have my 140 characters, and I will continue to use them where I always am- behind a driver’s seat.”

Musk refused to comment for this article but did release a statement: “Tweeting while driving a big truck is bad. I don’t want this company. I don’t want people using this company’s services while driving. Even though a lot of those Keanu jokes are pretty good.”
