In a move that’s left the trucking industry in stitches, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has named an unexpected mascot for the upcoming Operation Safe Driver Week: a 20-foot-tall inflatable rubber duck named “Ducky McDuckface.”
CVSA’s week-long safety initiative, set for July 9-15, is getting a dose of humor this year with Ducky slated to ride atop a customized flatbed truck, stopping at depots and rest areas across the country. The move was announced to mixed reactions, ranging from hilarity to utter bafflement.
“Ducky McDuckface will significantly boost our engagement,” stated Bess Trucker, CVSA’s Communications Director, amidst chuckles. “Who can ignore the sight of a giant rubber duck? We believe Ducky will provide an amusing yet impactful reminder about road safety.”
Despite the light-hearted nature of Ducky’s appointment, CVSA insists the goal is to improve driver behavior in and around commercial vehicles, ultimately reducing fatalities and injuries on highways.
The announcement sparked a social media frenzy, with #DuckyOnTheRoad and #Safeduckver trending. CVSA, however, declined to comment on rumors of a race between Ducky and Tesla’s autonomous Semi Truck.
“Ducky’s got the best road safety team around him. Plus, he’s inflatable. He’ll bounce back from any situation!” reassured the CVSA, adding a final note of levity to the unconventional safety campaign.
With a giant rubber duck leading the charge, this year’s Operation Safe Driver Week is set to be the most memorable yet. As they say, “When it comes to safety, don’t duck around!
