A team of scientists at the CDC (Center for Diagnosing Cartoons) announced today that years of painstaking research and analysis have finally yielded a shocking result: R. Crumb’s famous 1968 cartoon character really does have an enormous foot.
For over 50 years, art critics and professors have assured the American public that the Keep On Truckin’ guy’s foot only seems gigantic due to the foreshortening effect of being closer to the viewer. But the CDC managed to track the original model down, a homeless man named Keith N. Trookaine of Portland, Oregon, and were able to definitively determine that he wears a size 98EEEEEEE shoe.
When asked to comment, Mr. Trookaine said, ‘I’m penniless and live on the street, making a living by charging tourists $10 for a selfie with the foot. It was the shoe store bills that did me in.’
