A promotional stunt for the next installment in the high-octane Fast & Furious film franchise –The Fate of the Fabulous — gave spectators more than they bargained for when a driverless 18-wheeler went airborne and exploded adorably.
The radio-controlled tanker truck was burning a new proprietary fuel called Vin Diesel Fuel, which turned out to be “more robust than anticipated,” according to studio executive Max Proffitz. Hitting a ramp at 278 mph, it spun on its axis 7 times and careened through an empty city bus and a warehouse before striking an immovable object – a napping Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson – and blowing up. The tankful of pink and purple glitter burst open and spread its cute contents over a 10-block area of West Hollywood.
The Rock said it was only the second glitter-related disaster he’d been a part of “Remember, I was in The Tooth Fairy,” he sighed.
