Reacting to widespread complaints about noise pollution and hearing damage, today, the federal Department of Transportation banned all standard truck horns in favor of a more old-school solution: oral beep-beep noises.
“We had no choice,” said a department spokesperson. “A 150db horn can cause instant permanent hearing loss. When the horns were declared a crime against humanity by the International Criminal Court, it forced us to act.”
The new regulation requires all trucks to be provided with an old-fashioned unpowered megaphone. With this, the driver will use his/her mouth to beep or honk as needed. Cartoon roadrunner beeps are permitted only when driving Acme Corporation trucks. Fart noises are discouraged but not banned.
