The first day of summer has arrived, and many are rejoicing in the season of swimming pools, family vacations, and fun-filled memories. Long haul trucker Darren Deal is celebrating in his own unique way.
“I’m staying in the truck”, he told reporters through a barely opened driver’s side window. “It’s too hot out there. I ain’t moving.”
Witnesses on the scene were surprised that the father of four refused to leave the cab of his truck, despite his wife and kids’ pleas to “join them at the park.”
“I’m not going to the park,” Darren repeated. “All summer, I’m either on the road working, or I’ll be home, and either way, I’ll be in the cab. The AC in the house is terrible, the park is hotter than a frying pan in a bonfire- and don’t get me started on that boiling pot of bilge they call a community pool. No sir, I’m staying right here with my full blast air conditioner.”
Friends and family repeatedly tried to get Darren to exit the cab but simply rolled the window up and pretended she could not hear them. According to an email he sent reporters from inside the comfortably chilled vehicle, Mr. Deal is “doing great” and “can’t wait for autumn.”
