Between rising fuel prices and economic inflation, expenses are sky high- which means some are getting creative. Local trucker Dale Freeman is getting creative, hoping to take his pocket book to new heights – by gluing solar panels to the top of his rig.
“Solar makes money, and my truck is in the sun most of the time, so why not make the most of it?” Freeman told reporters. “Plus, this rig is pretty tall, so we don’t have a lot of shade interference. Unless I get stuck under the bridge.”
Experts applaud his resourcefulness, but many have reservations. “Solar is huge right now, but just gluing a few panels to your truck and driving around may not be the answer. You have to hook them up to batteries, and those batteries get really hot and are difficult to store. Then you have to transfer that energy to sell it- it’s not an easy process. Plus, you might get stuck under the bridge. That’s a no-go.”
Dale Freeman is not afraid of the challenge, though. “I’ve always been a businessman, and solar is exploding with possibilities right now. I am ready to start my solar empire. The future is right here, right now, on the top of this truck.”
Freeman’s trial run begins next week, but one thing is certain: if his business model works, many others will be interested in following in his solar-powered footsteps.
