Trucking Company Accidentally Wins County Fair for Largest Vegetable

A trucking company based in Iowa unintentionally took home first prize at the Floyd County Fair last week – without ever entering the competition.

The prize? “Largest Grown Produce.”

“We were hauling a shipment of decorative foam vegetables for a movie set,” explained dispatcher Helen Brigs. “Someone left the trailer door open, and a 9-foot foam zucchini rolled out and landed in front of the agriculture pavilion.”

Judges – either unaware or deeply impressed – declared the oversized vegetable “an innovative crossbreed,” and awarded it a blue ribbon. It was even photographed next to the mayor.

“I just thought it was GMO or something,” said fair judge Carl Finn. “We’ve seen some weird squash over the years.”

By the time the mix-up was discovered, the zucchini had been mounted on a platform and featured in two TikToks, one local newspaper, and a commemorative T-shirt.

Driver Kenny “Cargo Ken” Dalton was both confused and proud. “That fake veggie got more applause than my high school band ever did,” he said. “I might haul produce more often now.”

After some debate, the trucking company returned the ribbon – but kept the trophy. “It’s in our breakroom next to the expired DOT stickers,” Brigs added.

The fair board issued a brief statement: “While the zucchini was not technically eligible, it did bring joy, and that’s what county fairs are about.”

Meanwhile, other truckers are reportedly trying to “accidentally” drop cargo near upcoming events. One flatbed driver was seen circling a state fair with a giant rubber chicken strapped down.
