With the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic hopefully behind us, many businesses are trying to get back to normal operations and a more familiar and traditional routine, and Buthedd Trucking is no exception. Starting this week, it is ending its work-from-home policy. It expects its drivers to put down their remote controls and actually get back behind the wheel.
Company president Ronny Nohs said, ‘We bent over backward for two years when safety was a natural concern. But now that the vaccines are tamping down the death count, it’s time for our guys to drive their trucks hands-on instead of with a joystick and camera from their bedrooms. They need to return to living the American Dream: sitting on a loading dock for three hours waiting for the shipper to get its act together.’
Driver Alan Kluless admitted it would be tough to get back in a cab and drive for real again. ‘The food’s better at home, that’s for sure, not to mention the bathroom. But the computer screen was starting to give me migraines. That’s my dispatcher’s job.’
