Wallcart, a retail giant, has surprised the nation with its first class of in-house trained truck drivers, following a 12-week program in Texdenton County. Unlike traditional CDL training, Wallcart’s curriculum included a series of peculiar and rigorous exams.
The program, led by Fretz Keel, Wallcart’s director of fleet development, took a whimsical approach to serious training. Future truckers were tasked with “moose whispering,” using Wallcart-branded products to calm a wild moose, and a “Black Friday Simulator” for virtual crowd navigation.
Ashley Milecheck, one of the graduates, said, “I signed up for the challenge, but I never expected to perform a shopping cart ballet or whisper to a moose!”
Graduates like Milecheck are embarking on new careers driving 18-wheelers, doubling their previous salaries at Wallcart stores. Women made up an inspiring percentage of the class, breaking industry norms.
The quirky program is part of Wallcart’s solution to the ongoing driver shortage, producing 190 new drivers so far, with more to follow. While the program’s traditional training will be replicated nationwide, the Texdenton moose whispering exam will remain unique to that center.
Wallcart’s creative approach is turning heads and possibly shaping a new era of commercial driver training. The graduating class, armed with newfound significant rig skills and moose-whispering capabilities, is ready to hit the road.
Observers may be skeptical, but Milecheck is confident, “I’ve learned how to handle a big rig and a moose. The open road won’t know what hit it!” Wallcart’s roads have certainly become a bit more whimsical.
