Nationwide – This year’s CVSA International Roadcheck might go a little differently than before. The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has announced that tractor systems secured with duct tape will surprisingly be granted a pass during inspections—provided it’s the good stuff!
In a whimsical twist on the otherwise stringent CVSA inspection protocols, the 2024 International Roadcheck will accept tractor protection systems held together by duct tape. Yes, you heard it right: duct tape.
“We’ve recognized the ingenuity of truckers and their unique fixes out on the road,” said Bud Brakepad, the fictional spokesperson for CVSA. “If your tractor system’s security hinges on the strength of duct tape—specifically, that shiny, silver adhesive—we might just give you a nod of approval this year.”
The decision has been met with laughter and disbelief among the trucking community. It’s a humorous nod to the age-old saying, “If it can’t be fixed with duct tape, you’re not using enough duct tape.”
“Truckers are known for their resourceful quick fixes, and duct tape has been a go-to solution for many,” Brakepad joked. “While we don’t advocate for permanent duct tape repairs, we want to acknowledge the creativity and sometimes the necessity of using what you have.”
The CVSA insists that safety remains their top priority, and this announcement should be taken with a grain of salt—or a strip of tape. Inspectors will still perform thorough checks, but they will also be on the lookout for the most impressive and functional duct tape repairs during this year’s roadcheck.
“Who knows? There might even be a prize for the most creative use of duct tape,” Brakepad hinted, with a twinkle in his eye. “But let’s be clear: this doesn’t mean you should skimp on proper maintenance. Consider it a fun challenge highlighting temporary fixes until appropriate repairs can be made.”
As truckers across the country prepare for the upcoming Roadcheck, they’re reminded to ensure that all duct-taped components are in safe working condition. And perhaps, for this year at least, pack an extra roll of duct tape—just in case.
