The Johnson family from Sandpoint, Idaho, has always been proud of their American heritage and looks forward to celebrating the Fourth of July holiday. This year these enthusiastic patriots are doing something extra special to celebrate the freedoms of the United States: they are going to Mexico.
“Cabo just sounded like the perfect place to celebrate the Fourth,” Mr. Johnson, a long haul trucker who has seen forty-seven of the fifty U.S. states, told reporters. “The Fourth of July is such a big holiday for us, a time to really commemorate and honor the sacrifices of so many in creating this unique and special land of the free, so we thought, why not go all out and have some margaritas?”
Mr. Johnson is also a former Marine, and his wife’s family came over on the Mayflower, so this family of six knows what they’re talking about when it comes to American pride. Even their youngest, six-year-old Hank, has a strong sense of patriotism. “I want to be President,” he announced just before the family boarded their international flight. “I would die for this country. And I can’t wait to see the mariachis at the hotel.”
When asked if they saw any irony in wearing matching red, white, and blue outfits to the airport for their flight to Cabo San Lucas, the Johnsons said no. “What are you talking about? It’s a holiday. God Bless America! Now excuse me, but I’ve got to finish these chilaquiles.”
