19-year-old Jesse Knowerk of Port St. Lucie, Florida, faces charges of grand theft and criminal mischief after stealing a tractor-trailer. Barely escaped with his life when a freight train sent it flying into his house.
Telling police he was just trying to find his car when he couldn’t locate it after leaving a club, Knowerk admitted that his inexperience with trucks led him to stall it on the tracks. He leaped from the cab only seconds before a speeding train loaded with grapefruit launched the tractor nearly 100 yards, where it demolished the south wall of his own 2-two-bedroom home.
Undeterred, Knowerk then stole a forklift and was driving it the wrong way up Main Street when he stopped to ask a sheriff’s deputy if he’d seen his car.
Police chief Norm O’Dell said, “I guess it won’t surprise anyone that his blood alcohol reading shorted out our machine.”
