As the summer heatwave rolls across the nation, truckers are reportedly having a good laugh. Several drivers traveling through the scorching Southwest have started a humorous rumor: they’re spotting mirages of polar bears attempting to hitch rides on their rigs to escape the heat.
The whimsical tale, originating from a group of jesting truckers, has snowballed across CB radios and social media, with hashtags like #PolarBearHitchhikers and #HeatwaveHijinks trending.
“I swear, I saw a bear, as white as snow, thumb out, sipping on a Slurpee, waiting for a ride!” chuckled Big Rig Rick, one of the joking drivers. His tall tale has since caught on, with other truckers playfully reporting their own ‘sightings’ of the frosty hitchhikers.
