In what the head of the space agency called a “no-brainer,” experienced long-haul truckers will become supply ship astronauts for hauling cargo shipments to Mars.
Larry Nash of Stillwater, Oklahoma, was the first to volunteer, saying, “The cold dead vastness of space can’t be any worse than my Amarillo-to-Tucumcari run. And if I can tolerate Lois, my dispatcher, and her so-called funny stories about her kids, bug-eyed green Martians will be a breeze.”
Nash gave his interview while floating in the giant Cape Canaveral underwater training tank, adding, “The bathroom facilities in this spacesuit are light-years ahead of what I’m used to in my rig.”
