In a prime example of what the entertainment business calls ‘jumping the shark,’ the famed Cirque du Soleil corporation has used so many off-the-wall themes for its acrobatic spectacles that now it’s been reduced to designing a show featuring heavy commercial trucks.
Spokesperson Monique St. Turnstyle explained. ‘There are only so many good themes that make for a quality show. Once you do the easy and acceptable ones, you start having to do shows about nanny goats or hot dog buns. After that, it’s a long, painful slide through 1980’s sitcoms on trapezes and trampolining plumbers. And now, this.’
All is not doom and gloom, however. Profits have actually increased, as truck drivers are so used to less-than-wonderful working conditions that they will accept shockingly-low compensation even for backflipping a Peterbilt into a pool of fire.
