A dramatic accident happened yesterday on a highway in rural Ohio when a truck carrying three tons of organic carrots from a local farm went off the road. Authorities initially deemed it a case of reckless driving, but it appears to have been a set up upon investigation.
“I was driving the speed limit, listening to my talk show radio, when all of a sudden, this little guy runs out in front of me and just stands there, staring,” the driver of the truck, who did not wish to be identified, told police. The “little guy” in question was, it was later revealed, a two-pound cottontail rabbit.
What happened next further aroused suspicion. The driver explained: “He was so cute, wiggling his nose, just staring straight into my soul- I couldn’t hit him. So I swerved, and that’s when I lost control, and the truck went over. I blacked out for a minute, and when I came to, they were everywhere.”
When asked who was “everywhere,” the driver replied: “rabbits.”
Hundreds of tiny footprints at the scene confirm the driver’s story as to the bits of carrots left behind. However, the majority of the truck’s bright orange and green load was gone.
“It appears the carrots were forcibly removed from the vehicle and the accident site,” a representative for the trucking company told reporters. “We cannot say who is responsible, but the leading culprits are, well, hundreds of local bunny rabbits.”
Police are investigating where the rabbits went while the insurance company seeks to determine if any carrots are salvageable. There may not be many answers in this case, but the driver, who suffered only a minor concussion, feels confident the perpetrators will be found.
“It was them. It was that bunny rabbit, alright. He planned it all along. I’m just thankful I’m a man and not a carrot. That’s all I gotta say.” No rabbits could be reached for further comment.
