As short-haul trucker Heidi Buzzworthy will tell you, when it comes to providing the whole experience of a cooking show, TV is decidedly lacking in giving you a real idea of what the dishes taste like. Some of them look so good you might be desperate enough to lick the screen just to see.
Thanks to a new Chinese invention, you can do just that. Creator Jasmine Tung’s team creates chemical imitations of flavors that can be sprayed onto a transparent film that can go onto your screen. Buzzworthy claims she tasted creamy mac and cheese while it was being shown on her favorite Food Network show.
‘Then I got carried away,’ she continued, ‘and tried to combine the sprays to get the taste of the green chile and beans casserole I always get at Mabel’s Truck City diner. All I remember after that is waking up in a hospital bed with second-degree burns at both ends. Couldn’t sit in my cab for a month.’
