As the nation reels in a post-pandemic world with gas prices surging and transport delays lasting weeks and sometimes months, many citizens look to their elected leaders for guidance and, more importantly, action. However, it has become increasingly apparent that Congress is capable of taking only one action: creating committees. This has lawmakers and government watchdogs alike concerned, so in an effort to determine what is going on, Congress announced today they had made a committee to figure it out.
“The Congress Committee Committee is going to get to the bottom of just why nothing’s getting done in Washington, except the creation of committees, and they don’t do much,” one Senator told reporters. “We have a lot to fix in this country- has prices, shipping, manufacturing, even education, so we are very proud to take this important step. Gas will be below six dollars again before you know it!”
Not everyone is excited- or pleased- with this development, however. Leslie Voteur, a political activist, mother of four, and hard-working driver, who wants to see more tangible actions taken and less time spent going in circles discussing possible actions, was protesting outside the press conference.
“I want to see more tangible actions taken,” she told reporters. “There needs to be less time spent going in circles discussing possible actions.”
While the details of just what is required to keep our democracy going- and economy moving- are hard to decipher, everyone seems to acknowledge something needs to be done, and it is more than merely assembling a committee. Of course, we won’t know just what that something is until the current committee has spoken.
