As truck stops add more and more movie theatres to entice drivers, Hollywood studios are taking notice. They are increasing their trucking-centered productions by over 50%. Already in production are Gone with the Windshield, The Weigh-Station of Oz, and The Texas Speed-Trap Massacre. The biggest opening so far has been the fashion comedy The Devil Wears Carhartt, which opened to rave reviews and sold-out shows.
The film’s plot concerns Mabel, a new intern (Melissa McCarthy) at the fashion desk of Overdrive magazine, who initially loathes the trucking industry’s clothing choices but later comes to accept them and rises to the top. Her boss, the fearsome LaTonya Laitsoff (Queen Latifah), is a self-centered bully who eventually softens and helps Mabel on her rise to the top with timely denim tips.
Arriving for the holiday season are It’s a Wonderful Lift, Mack Truck on 34th Street, and White Freightliner Christmas.
